SONG OF THANKSGIVING

Music – Classical

Several years ago, there was a theatre here in Hollywood that was running classic musical films.  I took Morgan to see several of them.  The first one, FUNNY GIRL with Barbara Streisand he liked alot and thought was funny.   The second one was MY FAIR LADY with Audrey Hepburn, who he commented, "looked good enough to eat".   He laughed through that one too.   Also funny at the time, he thought MY FAIR LADY was a newly released movie.  While I admit that the restored print we saw looked good, I had to remind him that MY FAIR LADY was made in 1964 and was far from being a current release.   The third film, WEST SIDE STORY, faired less well with Morgan.   He found Natalie Wood to be cute but no where near the beauty of Audrey Hepburn.    Part of the problem at that West Side Story screening was that the film broke and the screen went black mid way into the movie and when they finally got it fixed in the projection booth, the reels were mixed up.   While I admit that WEST SIDE STORY isn't one of my favorites either, there are still some beautiful scenes in that film and the score is sensational.   A better THANKSGIVING clip will not be found.

I didn't like West Side Story at ALL...
written by Morgan Hill , November 10, 2009

It wasn't just that the film caught on fire it was the whole production being lame. Your idea of the dollar theater and the local one's here are completely different.

IT WASN'T A DOLLAR THEATRE THEN
written by Clifford Scott Carson , November 10, 2009

The Fairfax theatre wasn't a $1.00 theatre. It never was. Especially then. Later when we went after this it would become a $3 dollar theatre, but now it's back up to $5 or 7 dollars. It really wasn't fair to judge WEST SIDE STORY on that screening. Like I said, the film is not one of my favorites either, despite the film winning 10 Academy Awards in 1961 including BEST PICTURE, but the score is among one of the greatest ever written. Nobody can dispute that.

You get what you pay for, Clifford
written by Jesse Reczek , November 11, 2009

Cliff, taking Morgan to the dollar theater...yeah, you get what you pay for you cheap old biddy!! You couldn't have taken Morgan to a REAL theater with all the money that you still owe him? That just seems like a slap in the face. What's next? Buying him a 59 cent hamburger from McDonalds and boasting that you treated him to dinner? You are such a MIRA!!! Pay the guy what you owe him and stop being so damn cheap!!!!!!!!

It pains me to do this but I feel I must..
written by Morgan Hill , November 12, 2009

In Cliff's defense.. I love the dollar theater. Call it a cave to my inner cheap skate but I don't attend the normal theaters. Plus, he just about always picked up the tab for El Coyote or Brighten Cafe.. Definitely no variety.. but he was always quit to invite AND pick up the tab...

You left out KATE MANTILINI'S
written by Clifford Scott Carson , November 13, 2009

and ISLANDS, among others. The great thing about living in L.A are the theaters that revive and run classic films. Some movies were just meant to be seen on a BIG SCREEN. Definitely those big musical extravaganza's of the 60's like THE SOUND OF MUSIC, OLIVER!, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, HELLO DOLLY and even WEST SIDE STORY. Nothing I love better than to sit through one of these great films in a theatre with somebody who has never seen them. Morgan was a willing and agreeable participant. It's fun seeing movies with him. Of course you have to sit where HE wants to sit.

And as for YOU Jesse, since when did Mickey Dee's sell 59 cent hamburgers?

In Cliffs Defense??
written by Jesse Reczek , December 01, 2009

Clifford doesn't deserve the defense that you gave him. Yeah, he may have always picked up the tab, but he did have motives for doing so. Now that he has FINALLY come to the realization that you do not want to be "with" him, I am quite sure he regrets picking up the tab just as he regrets picking up the tab for Mira-Lax (Mira) and all of his other so-called "friends. Lets be realistic, Clifford will put a little in when he expects to get a lot out. Besides, considering that he did film you while you were sleeping among other things, I think that it is a small price to pay. Bottom line...Cliff is a cheap old biddy!

I shouldn't dignify this with a response . . .
written by Clifford Scott Carson , December 04, 2009

To somebody who doesn't know me, nor have ever met. Jesse Reczek is a big liar, a dead beat and a put down queen. There was no "finally" coming to any realization of anything. I've always enjoyed taking my friends out to dinner and the movies whenever I had the funds. I'm the one that usually puts in the lions share. But I don't do things for people for the reason of getting something in return. I do it because I enjoy it.

The truth is, Jesse Reczek owes me money. He's a grown man who can't fall asleep unless someone sings him a lullaby at night. YEP, you heard it here first folks! JESSE RECZEK NEEDS TO BE SUNG A LULLABY EVERY NIGHT IN ORDER TO FALL ASLEEP. Jesse heard me sing in some venue and he offered me money to sing for him on a nightly basis over the phone for money. Mind you, I've never met this individual. I don't even know what he looks like. I do know that Reczek is a probation officer. He lives in Boston and I'm in Los Angeles. At first when he made the proposition I thought it a bit odd. A grown man that needs to be sung to sleep every night? After the idea became worn out, I figured, "why not?". it would give me a chance to hone my singing skills and make a few bucks on the side. A deal that he has reneged on Reczek calls at night restless that he can't sleep. His favorite songs to be sung are DISTANT MELODY from Peter Pan and HUSHABYE MOUNTAIN from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Both of which I sing beautifully if I do say so myself. Due to his negligence I know longer associate with this person. Now he is angry because I have cut off communication. My advise for a restful nights sleep Reczek ? TAKE A PILL because you are one.
