So I’m at the mall today returning the last of the gifts I bought for my ex-girlfriend and while walking through this concrete jungle of retail renderings I start thinking about a few things. The first thing I thought about was to keep eyes straight ahead and stick to the game plan. There were an awful lot of discounts and sales going on and an abundance of sales personal willing to help me part with my cash. The second thing that crossed my mind was that there are allot of people in here for being in the middle of the day on a Thursday.

Who are these people and what are they doing here in the middle of a work day? I don’t know but there were plenty of shoppers abound. Deals here, sales there it was a virtual candy land for someone like me. I could already tell I was in trouble. My game plan consisted of returning all this merchandise and buying up some nice socks and then continuing through my day. But as I walked through Macy’s it seemed every rack was a clearance rack. 50, 60, and up to 80% off, How over priced is your merchandise when you can give 80% off?

So a few weeks ago I was quoted a price of $60 for one embroidered golf T, and $30 for all others after that. I’m sure I could have saved some on shipping if I bought more than one but I don’t know what size or quality I want so I was going to have take a chance on my first couple of purchases. The only reason I mention this is because I thought it was funny that she didn’t realize that she was talking to someone that shops the clearance rack at the dollar store. Flash forward two weeks and here I am in Macy’s abounded by discounts and trying not to look at the sales specials I so longingly crave.

So I’m at the first store and I’m warmly greeted by a 6’ tall man that is wearing his belt line on the wrong side of his butt. He had a good sales personality. After I made my way to the sock bin he bellowed across the store.. “We brought those socks in just for you boss!” Just for me? Wow, special order on socks. I’m not convinced so I venture on. The next store I find the socks that I have already purchased in the past and was very happy with. But that price didn’t tickle me. So I move on to yet another shoe store. At this store I find the premium socks that I was looking for months ago. I bought one pair from this store that was going out of business and was kicking myself ever since for not buying the whole rack. But these premium socks came with a premium price. In the end my inner cheap skate prevailed and I bought up a couple of pairs from my special order bin with plans to return them soon...
