What is Libertarianism?
written by Luke Guidry III , September 08, 2009

Your Way to Freedom, Abundance, Peace, Justice

Libertarianism is, as the name implies, the belief in liberty. Libertarians strive for the best of all worlds - a free, peaceful, abundant world where each individual has the maximum opportunity to pursue his or her dreams and to realize his full potential.

The core idea is simply stated, but profound and far-reaching in its implications. Libertarians believe that each person owns his own life and property, and has the right to make his own choices as to how he lives his life - as long as he simply respects the same right of others to do the same.

Another way of saying this is that libertarians believe you should be free to do as you choose with your own life and property, as long as you don't harm the person and property of others.

Libertarianism is thus the combination of liberty (the freedom to live your life in any peaceful way you choose), responsibility (the prohibition against the use of force against others, except in defense), and tolerance (honoring and respecting the peaceful choices of others).

Live and let live. The Golden Rule. The non-initiation of force.

Libertarians believe that this combination of personal and economic liberty produces abundance, peace, harmony, creativity, order, and safety. Indeed, that is one of the central lessons of world history. Virtually all the progress the human race has enjoyed during the past few centuries is due to the increasing acceptance of these principles. But we are still far from a truly libertarian world. Libertarians believe we would see far more progress, abundance and happiness if the ideas of liberty were fully accepted and allowed to work their miracles.

Our goal as libertarians is to bring liberty to the world, so that these wonderful and proven ideas can be put into action. This will make our world a far better place for all people.

As a Libertarian I believe...
written by Luke Guidry III , September 08, 2009

We should bring our troops home and defend our Liberty from within our borders. Instead we are spending endless amounts of our wealth keeping our armies abroad. If we spent the same amount we have on the war effort on ridding ourselves of our dependence on foreign oil, we would have conquered that dependence already.

So I must urge President Obama to bring ALL of our troops home, not just the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. This would take a sizable bite out of our yearly expenditures, money we could use to pay down our national debt. Money we could use to cut taxes on small business and poverty stricken individuals and families.

Nah, I like Ayn's quote...
written by Luke Guidry III , September 08, 2009

I like Ayn's quote better than anything I had to say. Libertarianism might as well be a dead movement. So its appropriate that its buried in obscurity.

No one respects the idea of personal responsibility vs i'm entitled just because. Most people just don't want to hear it. I have a better chance grabbing your attention with Ayn's short quote than any Cato Institute article, or diatribe by Tucker Carlson, or Neil Boortz. So those that might be curious can simply scroll down if they wish.

I think someone is confused about what they want their name to be.....
written by Luke Guidry III , September 09, 2009

Whats with the multiple names. Are you confused about who you are John Doe, or John Smith Jr. ?

Afraid to post as who you are?

Put your name down and be proud of your opinions, they define you!! Don't hide behind a false name.

LIBERAL is not a 4 letter word.
written by Clifford Scott Carson , September 10, 2009

I'm a proud liberal, but at the same time I recognize my many conservative views as well. I can't stand the way the Rush Limbaughs of the world treat the word "liberal" as if it's a bad thing. Like they're not liberal? Everyone has a fair amount of liberal and conservative views depending upon the issue or subject at hand. This "divide and conquer" mentality, i.e. "us against them, good vs. evil, liberal vs. conservatives" has really gotta stop. It's not productive.

Some people just aren't comfortable with their lives unless there's an enemy for them to be against and fight. And if there's not an enemy, they'll find one or make an enemy out of someone. Why? Because that's what they need to feel like they're good. Pathetic, but true. That's just the way those crackpots are. Don't look for it to make sense.

My opinion is....
written by Luke Guidry III , September 10, 2009

The main stream media has turned both Liberalism and conservatism into four letter words. The pundits for each group have turned us on each other with messages of hate in order to spike their respective ratings. Rush's ratings go up when he "attacks" the liberal point of view, and Janeane Garofalo gets more attention when she goes on the offensive against conservatives.

It's too bad that normal people like us cant sit down and write our laws. I'm sure we would have no problem finding common ground and areas of shared interest that would benefit all.
