Why are Christians so Pro War?

Religion & Faith – Christian

Are they not the ones that teach us to turn the other cheek? Are they not the ones that preach to us ‘thou shall not kill'? Murder is murder whether committed in an act of war at the doctor's office or at the bequest of the state. Where in the bible does it say ‘thou shall not kill unless provoked by a rival nation'?

How does one understand the hypocrisy in the belief system held by most Christians when it comes to war and violence? Hatred, murder and malice are not Christian values. Christian values teach about peace and loving thy neighbor. Christian values teach us about doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. I understand self defense and self preservation I do not understand calls to violence in the name of a peaceful and loving god.

A holy war is a war of words and ideals. A holy war is a search for souls and salvation. Only those that lead by example may participate in a holy war. Lay down your weapons and pick up your pens. Educate yourselves as you try to educate others. Do not send our troops into a country that had nothing to do with the tragic events of September 11th 2001. Do not pass judgment on any man unless thee be judged thy self. And do not call yourself a Christian if you can not or will not live up to the bibles teachings.

Don't label me a pacifist either, some people not only deserve to die but need to die. Maybe not so much ‘need to die' as much as some people no longer have the right to live. Although we are supposed to forgive and forget there are certain actions that revoke a person's right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Only you can revoke these three core basic human rights but once you do may god have mercy upon your soul. And no man is great enough to carry out this sentence.

Do you really know what Christianity is about?
written by Lady Luck , May 14, 2009

Have you read the verse in the Bible that say, "Cursed is the one who refuses to do the work of Lord, who holds back his sword from shedding blood." Or the words of Jesus, "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household."? There is so much more to Christianity as a whole that you have missed. Christianity is about war. It is about a war for your eternal soul. It is a war of good vs evil and whether a government chooses to go to war or not, this war for your soul rages on. So please don't confuse government policy with the faith of millions of believers around the world. I challenge YOU to educate yourself by actually picking up that Book and reading it and discovering for yourself what it really says and what it all really means.

Brainwashed by religion
written by Clifford Scott Carson , May 14, 2009

To believe the Bible is the undisputed word of God is a profound error. Jesus himself did not write a book. While there are many wonderful passages and interesting fables in the Bible, one has to remember that religion is man made. Basically, the Bible was written by alot of Jewish men as a way of controlling man and his woman. It's that simple.

Everyone who knows anything about the "spirit" understands that we all came from the same place when we were born and we all return to the same place after we die. EVERYONE. It's that simple. The soul is energy and energy never dies, it just changes form. When somebody says "I am a Christian", what they are really saying is "I am morally superior to you". But to me, what they are saying is they're brainwashed by religion. Nothing new under the sun. Religion has tripped people up for thousands of years and I suspect it will for thousands more. Until a person awakens himself to the basic good inside of him, he's stuck in somebody else's version of what he should be and do. In short, alot of people, not all, but most, who call themselves "born again Christians" are stuck. All they know is what they think they should be. They never really find their own voice. Why? Because of fear. They are afraid to stand alone, when the truth is we are all alone in this life. As

Has anyone considered being good just for it's own sake is where it's at? That you don't need religion to do the right thing. Just keeping ones own conscience clear is what feels best, because let's face it, when you do the unethical thing, (even if you get away with it) it's going to have an affect on you whether you realize it or not.

Until a person gets beyond this "good vs. evil" concept, his consciousness cannot expand. He's trapped in storyboard thinking.

Highjacked
written by Clifford Scott Carson , May 14, 2009

Sincere Christians need to redefine what it means to be a "Christian" Fundamentalist extremists like Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and others like them have highjacked the word "Christian" and given it a bad name. Why do you think so many people are "weirded out" by people claiming to be Christians? Today Christianity is almost a separatist word. An organization that claims to include everyone, but in actuality is very discriminating and elitist. And worse, driven by money and shaming people.

Never was it my intent to bash Christians
written by Lane H. , May 15, 2009

I believe what you believe in regards to war & violence. We must protect our lands. We must fight for our freedoms. I know that freedom does not come free, a heavy price has been paid. But Christians hold themselves to a higher authority. I do not. Most of us are not cut from the same moral fabric as a Christian should be. The call to war should be mine. The call for peace should be yours. To me it feels like I am the drug dealer telling the police officer to just say no.

THE HYPE AND THE FEAR
written by Clifford Scott Carson , May 15, 2009

When was the last time Americans had to fight for their freedoms? Not since WW2. The Korea war, the Vietnam war, the Iraq war was somebody else's war that America involved itself in. The Iraq war is the first war that America started. Think about it, how would we feel if there was a modern day civil war here in America were one part of the country was fighting against the other part and then all of a sudden some foreign country invaded America to back up one side against the other. We wouldn't like it, I can tell you that, yet the U.S. military has involved itself in other countries civil wars it had no business being in. Wars that didn't have anything to do with Americas freedom at all.

These days I'm more concerned with individuals by and large than I am mankind as a whole. As long as there is religion and the military there will always be war. Why? Because there's so much profit in it for certain parties. The Iraq war? Where's the profit for invading that war that George Bush promised? That war continues to cost America 150 million dollars A DAY! All the while our economy is going down the tubes.

No, I don't buy into the hype, nor the fear

COASTING THROUGH LIFE
written by Clifford Scott Carson , May 15, 2009

I don't hold all the values as written in the original post. Life is short. It is not until someone dies that one has known and loved for a long time, does one REALLY know what life is about. Until that time, one is coasting through life. Not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. Enjoy it while it lasts, because eventually we all lose people we love to death. I don't think it is good for me to wish death on anyone. I do wish people would have a better understanding of themselves and of their own minds. That they would work on themselves more rather than pointing the finger at somebody else.
