LIST THE FILMS YOU CAN'T STAND OR FIND OVERRATED

Entertainment - Movies

My list starts with:
  • STAR WARS (all of them. Lucus and Spielberg turned the art of film into theme parks)
  • THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST ( total fiction, could be Jesus at the Prom, er uh, I mean Carrie, what's the difference?)
  • GLADIATOR (too long and lacked what it needed, sex appeal)
  • STEEL MAGNOLIAS (Field and Maclaine- worst attempt at a southern accent ever)
  • FOOTLOOSE (don't you just wanna smack all those teens when they're dancing at the end?)
  • HOOK (contains all the conventions of filmmaking I can't stand)
  • RAINMAN (who could ever buy Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman as brothers?)
  • RISKY BUSINESS (another trying "too hard" to be hip and cool teen movie)
  • BLAZING SADDLES (hold up a sign that says "laugh here" why don't you and then club me over the head with your gags)
  • BACK TO THE FUTURE (liked it at first, now it's a theme park ride movie with the "bully" getting his sitcom crowd pleasing comeuppance in the end, YAWN)
  • JERRY MAGUIRE (tried too hard to be a sexy crowd pleaser)
  • SEABISCUIT (a film directed with "winning awards" in mind. Always lethal)
  • KING KONG (2005) (no charm, no sex appeal with heroine, more rubbery CGI effects)
  • SIXTEEN CANDLES (as the years go by, Molly Ringwald looks more and more like the rude bitch she is)
  • THE BREAKFAST CLUB (a bunch of whiny bitches manufacturing drama while acting "cool"?)
  • SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE (could it have been anymore sickening)
  • WHAT'S UP DOC (Bogdanovich made only 2 good movies in his career and this aint one of em')
  • THE PRINCESS BRIDE (the yiddish humor was way over the top and too dragged out to be funny)
  • FORREST GUMP (so commercial. Another "cry here" movie, in the Andy Griffith Show tradition)
  • THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS (pretentious, another film made with "winning awards" in mind)
  • THE LAST EMPEROR (could it be anymore boring?)
  • GREASE (lame story, tough watching actors in their late 20's, early 30's acting like teenagers)
  • SCARFACE (1983) (this is considered "cool" among not to bright teenagers)
  • FIELD OF DREAMS (why didn't they just hold up a sign that said "cry here" ?)
  • LORD OF THE RINGS (hard to get past the blue "rubber band" looking CGI effects)
  • RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (always overrated)

ALWAYS (BIG MISTAKE in casting the always annoying Richard Dreyfuss as the romantic hero)
CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (Ugly movie, no charm with Depp acting like Michael Jackson?)

And how often does that happen...? I liked hook and back the future though.. and What's wrong with Gladiator being a bit long? This is going to sound really bad but when I was watching 'The Passion' I was thinking, "when is he going to make it up that dang hill already..?"

HOOK? Hook was embarrassing for all involved. I cringed at the sight of an overweight thinning haired Robin Williams flying around in tights while acting like an arrested developed Peter Pan. The direction was as heavy as the Jolly Green Giants Iron skillet. No nuance or lightness to the fantasy, nor was the heavy strings in the all too familiar sound of John Williams score. Why couldn't Spielberg have just filmed the original J. M. Barrie story and filmed it as written with Peter Pan being A BOY? He might have come away with a classic then. Having that character grow up and rediscover the "boy inside" went against everything Peter Pan was about. Likewise, casting Julia Roberts as a short haired butch Tinker bell failed to enchant or captivate. Moreover, Dustin Hoffman as a short mugging trying too hard Captain Hook was far from whimsical. HOOK was every bit as bad as the bloated live action HOW THE CRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. Note to filmmakers. When attempting to film a literary classic, don't mess with the original story. Also, hire actors that are right for the part, not big stars who happen to be your friends.
