No matter what side of the isle you are on, the topic of abortion brings up strong emotional arguments. There is little middle ground when it comes to being pro life or pro choice. Whether you agree or disagree with the arguments listed below we will try and exam each one of them from the view point of logic and common sense. Not from the emotional bellowing of our hearts that tends to blur the clarity of a sharp mind. Being pro choice does not mean that you are pro abortion. All it means is that you recognize a women’s right to choose, even if she makes the wrong choice.
The most responsible pro life argument ever put forward is as follows:
“Choice within guidelines; if the sex occurred between two consenting adults abortion should not be an option unless the life of the mother is in danger.” But what is the definition of an adult? Surely we can not believe that adulthood automatically comes at the age of eighteen. And why is the life of the mother automatically more valuable than the life of the fetus? These are moral questions that when asked to a mirror should be answered individually.
Only death has a greater impact on a person’s life compared to having a baby. Even between consenting adults accidents can happen and birth controls may fail. Abortion is the ‘stop all’ to unwanted pregnancies if all other forms of birth control fail. It is also a fail safe fix to irresponsible behavior. But never should it be used as the sole form of birth control.
If tomorrow came, and no woman in the world was ever allowed to have an abortion ever again, Who would take care of all those unwanted kids? For one reason or another, the parents of these unwanted children have proved to be emotionally unfit, financially unable or physically incapable of caring for these children. What do we do then? Adoption is an option for some but parents like to have kids that look like them and our foster care system should only be used for temporary placement. So this begs the question, What then? If the parents will not or can not take care of their kids than someone has to do it for them no matter how you look at it.
In closing; To all the hardcore pro lifers that border on extremism and believe that no women, no matter the reason or circumstance should ever have an abortion, all I have to say is this. Who made you god and gave you oversight over the reproductive organs of all women? The answer is no one. So realize this. It is not your choice to choose. It is not your decision to make. We are a nation of freedoms for bettor or worse.
